Here is the update from the Park Rangers after their work on the trail last week:
- Berg Lake Trail condition assessment as of May 26, 2014:
- Trailhead to Kinney Lake is in good condition. Need a few days of sunshine to dry things out a bit as there are some muddy sections. Small remnant of an avalanche from the winter at 5km that is easy to pass through, only a few meters across.
Use Kinney Lake flats route which is in good condition, as high route still has significant windfall that will be addressed soon.
White-horn Hill has been cleared of windfall but there is still some rock debris that is easy to walk around.
Pockets of snow start at White Falls on the Emperor Hill section with continuous snow just below Emperor Falls that continues through Emperor Falls Campground. Trail has wands placed through this section.
Trail is mostly clear to Marmot Campground with snow starting once you are back in the trees along the lake all the way to the Berg Lake Campground.
Only Kinney Lake and White-horn Campgrounds are completely free of snow with tent sites available. All tent sites from Emperor Falls Campground to Berg Lake are all completely snow covered so we ask that you day hike only past White-horn Campground.
Next update should be on May 28th.

- Please be advised the historic Hargreaves Shelter at KM 21 on the Berg Lake Trail will not be available for visitor use during the period May 15 – July 15, 2014. This closure is required to facilitate a re-construction project to ensure the Hargreaves Shelter serves visitors to the Berg Lake Trail for many years to come. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.
